Today is some practice for flowers, which are still weeks away from blooming here. Can't wait! Used New Gamboge and Rose Madder first, with water running through the pigments to blend. Let those dry and then Ultramarine Blue and a little Winsor Green to darken around the edges of flowery shapes.
Dried again and used more Ultramarine blue and alizarin Crimson for definition. Not sure which I like better. The first looks lighter and more innocent, and the second is more serious and dramatic. I guess it depends on your mood at the time, which is what painting is all about? I am going to the garden store and buy some bright plants to hold me over!
