Here is my fun challenge for July.

I decided to use Yupo paper instead of Watercolour paper....I've never used Yupo paper before so it really took me out of my comfort zone.....

Yupo is very strange to use...bit like painting on plastic....


After a few attempts I decided that my little pinkie finger was the best to use....to make the petals & leaves of a stylised Wisteria.....

Now what to use to get some fine lines!
 Of course my Finger nail was the natural thing to use.

Ton défi de juillet m'a fait réfléchir avec quelle partie de moi j'allais bien pouvoir peindre!!!!

J'ai essayé, sans résultat. J'ai donc chercher un sujet.. Et le plus simple à mes yeux..des raisins et mes doigts!

La première aquarelle est réalisé par mon petit fils Anthony 7 ans qui aime bien peindre avec moi.(je lui ai promis de t'envoyer son aquarelle!!)

La seconde est réalisée sur papier sec, et la dernière sur papier légèrement mouillé avec des couleur plus claires.

Bonnes vacances à toutes...

here it is, my contribution to the monthly challenge in July. Painted only with fingers, nails and mouth (blowing the wet color over the wet paper). It has been really a great fun. t

The monthly challenge - painting with body parts - no brushes.
I had a debate with myself about whether I could use other tools, but Olivia only mentioned body parts so I was a good girl :) I thought it would be relatively easy to do, but given that I use half pan watercolours, it is not that easy to find a body part to fit apart from a finger and I did not want to cheat by using a brush to get the colour out - it was all or nothing.

Attempt 1: immerse the paper and then mix up a nice dark of perylene green and perylene maroon.

 It looked salvageable when the paint was fresh, but it just got muddier and muddier until it was a dark grey and light grey zebra. I also slightly felt that sketching in the outline first might have been cheating.

Attempt 2: Dry paper, no sketch, black watercolour, right forefinger. Happy, but with black paint under nail.

 

I will eventually get around to finishing it off with some grass for the poor thing to eat and to explain the lack of hooves.

Vandy Massey - Week #29

I'm currently enjoying a festival of watercolour at the Brioude Biennale with Olivia - so there's not much time to actually paint.

I took the easy route with the challenge and painted with my fingers and fingernail - without much conviction that I would end up with anything much more than smudges.

So I settled down today and painted the stone wall in this French garden, with the towels hanging on the line in front of it, and a row of tomato plants growing against the wall.

I was surprised by the level of detail I could get in the folds of the towels.

And here is the first layer, before I added the details. As you can see from my fingernail, this was just after the tomatoes had been added to the image.

Strangely, I found it easier to paint with my middle finger than with my forefinger.

Colours:

Wall: Sepia and Burnt sienna

Plants: Green gold, Cascade Green, Cadmium Red, Transparent Orange

Towels: Winsor violet, Cascade Green, FUB

Pegs (just for fun): Cadmium Red, Winsor Turquoise, FUB 

Good challenge - stretched my thinking.
