Vandy Massey - Week #32

Gesso under Watercolour

In this painting I used gesso on the paper to create the texture I wanted. Gesso resists the watercolour slightly, resulting in some lovely marks on the paper.
The first layer of gesso was allowed to dry before starting the watercolour wash.

Creating rock face texture with gesso under the watercolour wash

Gesso creates a less absorbent surface, allowing the watercolour to move.
