I'll be doing a series of posts focusing on mark making.
The wash I did for Week 24 formed the basis of this painting. I used Winsor and Newton watercolour blocks to make marks on top of the initial wash, creating a little abstract painting for Running With Brushes.
Colours used: Phtalo Blue, FUB and Viridian.
The approved way of using these blocks is to apply them dry onto the paper, and then wet them with a brush, or spray. The above image shows the line created this way. Its relatively fine, and in this case, broken up by a bit of high level spray.
However, when you break the rules a bit and dip the stick into water before using it, the line created has much greater density and richness.
Neither of these is right or wrong. Its more a case of using the type of line that will work best in the painting.
