MONTHLY CHALLENGE  # sponges
 3 SEPERATE WATERCOLOUR WASHES
SIZE : 3 SECTIONS  OF  20 X 50 CM WASHES
PAPER :VANGEROW - VENICE AQUARELL .- TORCHON  - 275 g/m2
TYPE OF SPONGE :NATURAL SEA  SPONGE
WATERCOLOURS :  NEUTRAL TINT (W&N) +  TRANS YELLOW  (W&N)
TECHNIQUE :SPONGING

The spongin fibres of the natural sea sponge create a wide variety of different marks and lines . The 3 washes above show sections of longer washes I made with a very large natural sea sponge. Working almost blindly as the sponge was so large it was difficult to see the paper. The large sponge absorbs so much water it really is beautiful to work with especially as I have only ever worked with small natural and synthetic sponges to date . ...I'm looking forward to exploring more at a  larger scale with this sponge.
